Thika sub-county administrator Rose Muthoni has warned matatus and buses against picking and dropping passengers in non-designated areas.
She said those who contravene the directive will be heavily reprimanded.
Speaking in her office on Wednesday, Muthoni said that the 'careless behaviour' by PSV motorists was creating heavy traffic in the town centre making it hard for other motorists coming in or leaving the town.
"We already have a traffic problem in the town as a result of the ongoing road constructions and expansion. We have, however, noted that PSVs have reverted to their careless behaviour of dropping and picking passengers at undesignated areas which has been complicating the traffic congestion problem further," said Muthoni.
She said that county askaris will be deployed on various sections of the roads leading to the town, which she said are notorious with matatus with this behaviour.
"The errant matatu crews shall be dealt with in accordance to county by-laws and it is therefore important that they obey the rules," said the administrator.
