Thika traffic police base commander Francis Muthamia has issued a warning to all motorists in the sub-county after a massive accidents report on his desk.
Speaking to the press after a meeting with bodaboda operators in Thika town yesterday, Muthamia said that most of the accidents reported in the area have been caused by speeding vehicles and motorcycles.
He insisted that every vehicle on the road must be roadworthy to be allowed to work within the sub-county.
The traffic police boss added that a raid is to be conducted by his officers in the course of the week to ensure no vehicle has gone contrary with the road rules.
“An immediate raid will be conducted this week by the traffic officers to ensure everyone has abided by the agreement we just made,” Muthamia insisted.
This comes two weeks after the Thika superhighway lanes were repainted to reduce the accidents after several road users expressed their grievances on the faded road lanes.
Thika residents had also asked Kiambu County transport executive Njeri Gatabaki to repaint the zebra crossing marks and an immediate action was taken.
The Supreme Court had earlier on placed an injunction barring the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) from placing mobile courts on the highways so as to prosecute road users going contrary to the put rules until the court hears the court before it.
