Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) and Kenya Tourism Board (KTB) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding in a bid to adopt a holistic approach to marketing Kenya’s wildlife product ahead of the August general election.

The joint MoU signed on Friday will see KWS and KTB undertake joint international media trips to expose the destination for safari product in national parks and game reserves.

“The Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) is the key custodian of wildlife product that the country is best known for besides the beach product. As such, their mandate links well with that of KTB as we seek to market the country for diversified tourism products with wildlife and beach as iconic products,” said KTB CEO, Dr. Betty Radier.Furthermore, KWS and KTB will support each other on all initiatives aimed at promoting the destination both in local and international events such as exhibitions and road shows.

Additionally, KWS and KTB will participate in the conceptualization and roll-out of joint conservation programs aimed at improving the wildlife product – such as the six-month Beach Management undertaken by both parties in 2011.

“We are excited to be part of the efforts to market Kenya’s wildlife product to our key source markets around the world. The MoU we have signed here today will not only ensure that we capitalize on our individual strengths but will further our agenda to ensure a steady stream of tourists during the election period and beyond,” said KWS Director General, Kitili Mbithi during the MoU signing – which took place at the Impala Observation Point Picnic site in Nairobi National Park.

The MoU will seek to further the sharing of market intelligence between the KWS and KTB – which will fortify strategies adopted by the two government agencies that are geared towards the promotion and sustenance of Kenya’s wildlife product.
