Professionals from Central Kenya now want the repeat presidential election to proceed as scheduled on October 17.
Mount Kenya Professionals Association (MKPA) has asked the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) not to accept to be intimidated by politicians to change the poll date.
MKPA chairperson Mwaura Kogi said the electoral body risks pushing the country into political turmoil by not protecting its independence.
"The commissioners, including IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati are playing into the hands of agents of destruction. No individuals should hold this country at ransom," said Kogi.
Kogi spoke during a press briefing in Nairobi on Tuesday.
He was accompanied by former Jubilee MPs Dennis Waweru (Dagoretti South) and Bishop Margaret Wanjiru (Starehe).
Wanjiru reiterated that the electoral body should stick to the election date and urged NASA to be mindful of the plight of the 1.6 million children who are preparing to sit the national examinations.
"We cannot be in endless campaign mode. We need to move forward as a country," said the former lawmaker.
The opposition NASA coalition has threatened to sabotage the repeat polls if their demands for electoral reforms are not met.
However, Jubilee wants the elections to be held on October 17 as scheduled by IEBC.
