Nakuru County government has banned all trans-county livestock movement, due to an outbreak of Foot and Mouth disease.
Speaking in Mai Mahiu during an open meeting with pastoralists, Naivasha Sub-county administrator Robert Ndung’u said the measure is meant to reduce the spread of the disease, which has killed many animals in the county so far.
Ndung’u further urged the pastoralists to respect and obey the directives until when they shall be told that the outbreak has been contained.
“As you can see, I have come with a veterinary officer who will ensure that all the cattle have been vaccinated so that we are able to contain the disease. We want to make sure that more than 50,000 cattle have been vaccinated by the end of next week,” added Ndung'u.
He further warned all residents to ensure their animals are not left to loiter in the town and other areas, as they pose a great danger to motorists and pedestrians alike.
"Majority of accidents around the town have been blamed on livestock which roam around the town," said Ndung'u.
