The much talked about movie acted by Lupita Nyong’o is the Black Panther which premiered in Kisumu last month. Black Panther has since broken record by raking in Millions of US dollars. This was the movie that made Lupita win an Oscar. Produced in 2013, 12 Years a slave narrates the ordeal that African slaves go through in the hands of white masters. If you are a cry-baby, then arm yourself with a lot of tissue paper while watching this emotional movie.
Queen of Katwe
This to date is my all-time favorite Lupita movie. Set in Katwe, a slum in Kampala, Uganda, the movie is about a young girl who dreams big and after putting a lot of effort to learn chess, she finally manages to beat heavyweight chess champions. She comes from a poor family and her mother (acted by Lupita) struggles against all odds to not only put the food on the table but to also enroll her and her brother in school. Everyone should watch this movie.
Shuga
Apart from movies, Lupita has also featured in several other television shows and series. I would recommend you watch Shuga, a television series set in Nairobi. It is about HIV/AIDS and the struggle that city women and men go through to get to the top of their careers.
