Bonchari MP Zebedayo Opore has been criticised for failing to deliver on his mandate.
This is by allegedly delaying the disbursement of bursaries besides failing to push for maintenance of major roads in the region.
Led by Kisii County Majority leader Protus Moindi of Bomariba Ward on Monday, a section of constituents accused the legislator of failing to utilise the CDF kitty in accordance with the law.
According to them, the constituency has been returning over half the money given for development purposes in the rural areas even with the presence of a myriad of challenges that the funds could be used to fix.
“The MP is just sleeping on his job because the CDF kitty isn’t really performing the functions it should be. We are having our children failing to sit for major exams due to lack of school fee yet we have the CDF that used be used the fix such a challenge,” Moindi said.
He challenged the MP to explain why the constituency returned 56 per cent of the money allocated in the financial year 2014/15 even after a number of students in the institutions of higher learning weren’t given the bursary.
“A number of our students have already shown evidence that they had applied for the kitty but didn’t receive anything,” he added.
However, the MP through his representative, Joash Onyari, dismissed the allegation and blamed politicians for allegedly using speculation to make a point.
“Sometimes we speak without evidence and that is what I have seen happen here today. All those students who applied for the bursary were given. Those complaining are not justified and we have the records to support that,” he said.
