South Mugirango Member of Parliament Manson Nyamweya has accused Members of the Kisii County Assembly of laxity and being compromised in their oversight role.
Speaking on Thursday at Tendere, Bomachoge Chache Constituency during a burial, Mr Nyamweya challenged the MCAs to oversight on the usage of resources in various parts of the county.
“Our MCAs in the county assembly are not playing their oversight role effectively. They should put the governor on check and ensure good usage of resources,” the MP said.
He also advised contractors who have not been paid by the county government to seek judicial redress so that they are paid.
“There is no way contractors can be paid by the county unless they have gone to court. Governor Ongwae is a servant and, therefore, he should pay those who have worked for the county. He should solve all pending issues in his government as faster as possible,” he demanded.
Contractors held demonstration to the governor’s office last month demanding to be paid their dues after completing their job.
They accused CeC for finance Mr Kodeck Omwancha of sabotaging their payment and asked governor Ongwae to solve the issue.
Governor Ongwae has since promised the contractors that they would be paid their money.
The South Mugirango MP has been at logger-heads with governor Ongwae in the recent past accusing him of laxity and sidelining some areas in the county on development.
The legislator is reportedly warming up for Kisii gubernatorial seat in the 2017 general election through the ‘Gucha Alliance’ block.
