Thika West MP Alice Ng'ang'a has expressed concerns that hundreds of people living near the Thika town would be displaced following a recent road expansion plan.
This follows a move by the Kenya National highways Authority (KenHA) to extend ongoing road construction at Makongeni beyond the stipulated 30 meter rule.
Nga'ng'a claimed that the authority has earmarked to extend the road by 60 meters, a move she said would leave hundreds of residents of Bandani slums, Riat, Otonglo and Kisian displaced.
Speaking on Thursday in his Thika CDF offices where she was awarding her constituency workers, the MP called for dialogue between the authority, the contractor Sino hydro construction company and the local leadership.
“It is unfair to expand the road beyond the known 30 meter rule by alienating peoples land,” she added.
Ng’ang’a further called upon Kiambu leadership to engage in collaborative development and shun existing rows in the county to foster development.
The ongoing road expansion is part of the northern by pass that starts at Garissa road to Makongeni shopping centre.
