Kuria who was speaking to farmers at Kimaratia Village on Thursday morning said that hooligans who are stealing from hardworking farmers from the area should be brought to books and justice to prevail.

The legislator has also urged the coffee society to merge in order to help fight theft in the area which will be economical as opposed to individual farmer in the area.

He said the union will end embezzlement of farmers’ funds, leadership rows, reduce prices and cut costs of inputs as they would buy the same in bulk.

The MP added that the union would also co-ordinate the sale of coffee to the highest bidder thus increasing farmers’ profit which will end poverty and unemployment.

“I want to improve coffee farming in my constituency to ensure farmers get maximum benefit and not to be mistreated by hungry brokers who have self interest,” said Kuria.

According to Kuria, the National Cereals and Produce Board has established a depot in the area where farmers will buy products, including fertiliser at subsidised prices.

He said that he was committed to uplifting the living standards of the residents, adding that since the coffee sector was adversely affecting the economy, many Gatundu South farmers who majorly relied on the crop were living in abject poverty.

He has however appealed to well-wishers to help save young farmers who are being terrorised by thieves.
