The Jubilee coalition’s quest to govern for two decades got a backing from an unlikely quarter after an opposition MP endorsed it.
Speaking on Tuesday during the Mashujaa Day celebrations in Afraha stadium, Nakuru Town West MP Samuel Arama said there was nothing wrong with the Jubilee regime ruling the country for 20 years.
The Orange Democratic Movement lawmaker further told the cheering crowd that even his Cord coalition had no issues with the idea.
"Us as Cord we have no objection to Jubilee ruling for 20 years as long as the country remains peaceful. After your terms, then the opposition can then present themselves before voters," he added.
The ruling coalition which brings together two main parties The National Alliance of President Uhuru Kenyatta and William Ruto’s United Republican Party had a pre-election pact in which Kenyatta would rule for two terms beginning 2013 all the way to 2022 when Ruto will take over for a further 10 years.
Arama reiterated that he would ditch Cord come 2017 for the Jubilee Alliance Party on whose ticket he promised to defend his seat.
