Shinyalu MP Silverse Anami was arrested and momentarily detained at the Kakamega police station on Saturday for disrupting a function graced by Youth and Gender Cabinet Secretary Sicily Kariuki on Friday.
Anami recorded a police statement and was later released on a cash bail on condition he reports back to the station on Monday.
Police arrested the MP at a road block when he left church in Khayega on Saturday and took him to the police station.
Reports indicate that the MP allegedly interrupted the CS while she was launching the NYS youth empowerment programme in Shinyalu at Solyo grounds.
Police had to shoot in the air and fire tear gas canisters to disperse youths who had accompanied the MP to the event.
Confirming the incident, Western police commander Cyrus Ombati said that police were considering charging Anami with causing disturbance and damage of property.
“We recorded his statement and released him on cash bail on condition that he returns on Monday,” he said.
However, the
MP may not be charged Monday since in
vestigators have not yet recorded statements from all the witnesses.
Anami, who was accompanied by Kakamega senator and gubernatorial candidate Boni Khalwale, however said he will not report to the station as directed.
