Gitothua Member of County Assembly (MCA) Chege Wanjiru has asked Ruiru MP Esther Gathongo to account for the development funds being channeled to the constituency.
Addressing residents in Ruiru on Tuesday, the MCA accused the MP of failing to account for over Sh180 million allocated to the area in the last two financial years.
The MCA said that despite the constituency receiving huge chunks of money, it has lagged behind in terms of development.
“It’s ironical that our roads and infrastructure are poor yet we are the constituency that receives huge funds in Kiambu,” said Wanjiru.
The MCA observed that most roads in the area are in deplorable condition and called on the MP to urgently ensure the roads are repaired.
He observed that residents especially farmers and business people have been disadvantaged by the poor state of roads.
The MCA also complained of high levels of insecurity, saying there is need for the MP to liaise with both the county and the national governments to ensure security of residents.
Chege also called for construction of public toilets, installation of streetlights and renovation of drainage systems, saying cases of muggings and robbery would be dealt with if the area were well lit.
At the same time, the MCA urged women in the area to come forward and apply for development funds. She indicated that the government has set in place measures meant to empower women and youth economically.
