Thika town MP Alice Ng’ang’a has called on her constituents in the dry parts to conserve environment by planting trees as a way of attracting rain.
Speaking when she toured the Ngoliba and Gatuanyaga Wards on Monday, the lawmaker said that the areas are at a risk of being hit by drought and famine since it has not rained for quite some times as expected, thus the people did not harvest anything.
Ng’ang’a who was accompanied by Kiambu nominated MCA Mary Mwangi said that there is need to keep the area green more so at this time when most people from some parts of the country are starving and only awaiting the relief food from the government which, according to her, is also not enough to satisfy every affected families.
She added that she will help in all ways possible ensure that the area is conserved and lead by example by personally planting trees in the area this month.
“I will ensure this area is green and that you benefit from this coming rainy season since this area is semi-arid thus little rain falls here,” said Ng’ang’a.
She stated that Kiambu County government should be in the forefront to help the residents in the exercise as they have enough funds for environmental conservation.
The lawmaker called on the people to come out in large numbers in February 16 this year where she will lead various groups of people in tree planting project to tame any possible signs of famine in the area.
She has assured the resident that she will disburse relief food on the same day.
