Gatundu North MP Kigo Njenga has asked Kiambu County government to reduce tax levies being imposed on hawkers and traders in his Constituency.

Speaking to the press after touring the Constituency on Saturday, MP Njenga observed that traders and hawkers are being charged high levies yet many of them cannot sustain their business.

Njenga said that the county government must put into consideration the plight of hawkers before taxing them heavily.

“I request Governor William Kabogo to urgently reduce the taxes being imposed on hawkers in most parts of the county,” asked Njenga adding that the county government should create a conducive environment for business people by not demanding high amount of tax from them.

He said that hawkers are uncomfortable doing their business for fear of being victimised and harassed by county askaris whenever found without enough money to pay them.

MP Njenga also said that the county government must ensure that the welfare of hawkers and other businesspeople is catered for.

Njenga at the same time urged traders to apply for government funds for them to expand their businesses as a way of improving their standard of living.

He said that the government is giving out money (Uwezo and Youth Funds) which if applied for will help in positively transformingg lives of many people.

Njenga also asked the traders to form, join saving groups saying that such will help them access loans to expand their small enterprises.
