Seme MP Dr James Nyikal says that the number of older persons who need protection has increased and they need to be considered in the plans of the ministry.

Dr Nyikal added that the Sh 4,000 given to persons aged 65 years and above need to be distributed in such a way that all eligible persons benefit.

"We need not forget that there are old people that look up to us for protection. Let us not say that the family will take care of them because it is our collective obligation," he said.

Speaking to this writer, the MP said that the focus that has been given to children and orphans should be increased to accommodate older persons.

"In most cases, we have focused on children yet this group of older persons are as vulnerable as those young children. Taking care of the elderly in our midst is a blessing for the society. The Sh4,000 given to each one of them every two months need to reach every deserving persons," he added.

The money that is disbursed through the cash transfer programme is issued every two months.
