Mombasa Women Representative Aisha Hussein has urged Governor Hassan Joho to unite the Coast region ahead of the much anticipated 2022 general election.
Hussein says that it will be better for the region to start strategizing itself ahead of the election.
Speaking to journalists in Mombasa Town on Wednesday, the ODM Woman Rep stated that Coast leaders have to unite if they want to make a political impact.
She said that he region has over the years been used by other politicians to ascend to power.
The woman rep added that as a region they have to decide on their next move that will guarantee them top leadership come 2022.
“As Coast region we have potential leaders who have the capability of succeeding President Uhuru Kenyatta in 2022,” she said as quoted by a local daily.
The ODM lawmaker warned that the region will continue to lag behind if its leaders fail to unite.
She asked Coast residents to remain united and shun politicians who want to use them for their own political gains.
Coast region is considered an opposition zone though political analysts observe that the Jubilee government is slowly taking over in terms of popularity.
A section of the region politician's among them Mombasa governor Hassan Joho and his Kilifi counterpart Amason Kingi have been pushing for the region to secede.
The politicians argue that the region has been sidelined and it will be better if it stands on its own.
Governor Kingi has also been quoted saying that the region will from its party ahead of the 2022 general election.
Both Joho and Kingi have declared interest in the 2022 presidential seat.
