Kuresoi South legislator Zakayo Cheruiyot has asked residents to shun leaders who want to divide them along tribal lines.
Spaeaking on Sunday, Cheruiyot raised concerns that some politicians have ill motives and want to divide Kenyans based on their tribes. The MP said that some politicians are using tribal statements which he indicated may plunge the county into tribal balkanisation.
“It is unfortunate that some leaders are working hard to divide the country. I will not allow such politicians to visit my constituency,” he said.
Cheruiyot said time has come for Kenyans to stand up and reject such leaders at the ballot. He said the country has no place for people who are driven by selfish interests.
Regarding the referendum calls by Coalition for Reform and Democracy (Cord) and the council of governors, the MP asked Kenyans to listen to the concerns being raised by the leaders and make their own independent choices.
He said the constitution gives every Kenyan a right and freedom of expression. He added that it was unlawful for some politicians to speak on behalf of the people.
The MP however asked propagators of the referendums to refrain from acts that will lead to animosity and hatred among Kenyans. He asked them to preach peace and unity even as they traverse the county collecting signatures in support of their quest.
