Kaloleni MP Gunga Mwinga has called upon President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Deputy William Ruto to resolve a 7,100-hectare land tussle in Mitangoni, Mariakani town. Speaking during a baraza in his backyard, Mwinga urged the national government to ensure that the Sh22 billion land conflict is resolved before the forthcoming general polls in order to end the increased tension in the area.According to Mwinga, the squatters occupying the land have been living in a state of fear since they do not know what the future holds for them."The squatters want to settle without fear of eviction. We urge the Government to intervene," he said, as quoted by the Standard. The politician also asked the State to prosecute persons who misappropriated the Sh26 million that had been paid for part of the land with immediate effect. His remarks were reiterated by Chama Cha Uzalendo (CCU) chairman Maur Bwanamaka who said the National Land Commission (NLC) is to blame for the land conflict in the area. "It is regrettable that what is done is the opposite of whatever was agreed," he said, as quoted by the daily.
