Nyando parliamentary aspirant Jared Okello has threatened to write a protest letter to the Inspector General Joseph Boinett over failure by Nyando police to arrest his attackers at a funeral in Ahero.

Mr Okello said even after presenting the names of his nine attackers in a statement which corroborated with those of other eight witnesses, the police have failed to arrest the attackers.

Okelo who lost the 2013 Nyando Parliamentary seat to Fred Outa was last Saturday attacked by youth at the funeral of Luo Elder Odote Ojiem.

One of Okello’s aides was stabbed with a knife while Okello was assaulted and roughed up by the youth before being thrown out of the funeral venue in what he termed as political hooliganism.

Okello and Outa traded accusations on the attack with Okello saying Outa was responsible for the attack, while Outa said the ‘public’ only acted to restore order in the funeral by throwing out people whose aims were to spoil disrupt the event.

“I am ready to go to any length, even if it means meeting the President, so as to ensure that the people are arrested and charged so as to end this hooliganism which has become a menace in the area,” said Okello.

Nyando OCPD Elias Gitonga admitted that the police are yet to arrest any suspect in the said case, and that a team led by area OCS was still handling investigations into the matter.

“That was an assault case reported and we are still doing investigations, once it is complete we shall act,” said Gitonga in a phone interview.

Okello however, read malice in the statement saying the suspects are known and the police should be talking about interrogating them rather than investigating.

“We have given the police the names of the suspects. We know where they are and we have offered to take the police in those places and make arrests. But with this pace I will have to act as I am dedicated to see justice on this matter,” he said.
