The Lamu West parliamentary contest is likely to take a different twist after Jubilee aspirant Muthoni Marubu dropped out of the race and joined the Women Rep contest ahead of the next general election. Marubu will be contesting for the area’s women rep seat that is currently held by Shakilla Abdalla of Wiper Democratic Movement.According to Marubu, she reached the decision to shelf her ambitions for the Lamu West Parliamentary seat after consulting several parties including her supporters over the matter. Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Rishad Hamid Amana is among the aspirants who had declared interest in unseating incumbent MP Julius Ndegwa. According to analysts, the race was a battle between Ndegwa and Amana even before Marubu defected. Marubu will have to pitch tents in different parts of the county in order to win the seat come August, as the current women rep (Shakilla) has been very vocal in local and national politics.Similarly, winning as an independent candidate will require an extra effort from her part.
