Njoro MP Joseph Kiuna now supports the closure of Daadab refugee camp brushing off concerns by human rights activists and the international community.
Speaking on Sunday in Njoro town, the MP said security for the Kenyan people is of paramount importance.
And if it has to be upheld, then, Daadab refugee camp must be closed.
“On this issue about the closure of Daadab camp, I am supporting it fully because our security as a country comes first above everything else…,” said Kiuna.
He dismissed calls from human rights activists in Kenya who have faulted the government’s plan to close the camp citing breach of a tripartite agreement between Kenya, Somali and the United Nations.
Kuna said human rights bodies talking ill of the move are doing so because they will no longer gain from the donations they have been getting from abroad.
“Human rights activists are only talking because they are only concerned about the donations they get from abroad because of these refugees but our security comes first whether they like it or not,” he added.
His statement comes shortly after a similar stand by President Uhuru Kenyatta who ended his tour to North Eastern part of Kenya.
Uhuru maintained that the refugee camp must be closed but the process will be done in a humane manner.
Daadab refugee camp has been on the government’s radar over allegations that it is one of Kenya’s recruiting and training of terrorists.
