Youth have been advised not to be used by politicians to malign others on social media during campaign period.

This follows an incident, where a boy named Laura Kirwa from Kipyeshi, Nandi County, who was arrested after insulting an aspirant on social media.

Speaking after releasing him, Mosop MP Kirwa Stephen Bitok said, insults are unlawful.

“I want to advise the youth to be careful this campaigning period.Last time they were used to cause violence and currently they are being used by politicians for character assassination on social media,” Bitok said, Tuesday.

He noted those trying to use the platform for propaganda and insults should be aware that the government has the machinery to locate them.“You can be tracked and found. Don’t think you will hideafter insulting others with the claims you claims you cannot substantiate,” he added

Laura re-posted a post from another group member of Mosop Crossfire WhatsApp group which claimed aspirant Vincent Tuwei had shot someone and was being held at Kapsabet police station.

He was released from Kabiyet police station on a cash bail paid by Bitok.
