The legislator speaking at Makongeni area on Thursday said some contractors contracted to upgrade roads fail to build good drainage systems and this affects the flow of water during rainy seasons.

“Fakes contractors are to be blamed for the floods experienced in Thika Sub County because the contractors failed to construct good drainage patterns to ensure there is a free flow of water especially during heavy rains,” he said.

He said in his tenure he will inspect roads once contractors have finished work before they receive payment.

“No contractor will be paid before I inspect the roads in person to ensure drainage patterns on the roads are well set up. I don’t wish to witness floods in Thika Sub County again as it has happened in the past few days. Traders have incurred losses after their products were swept away by floods due to poor drainage on our roads,” said the MP.

Wainaina asked road contractors to ensure no shoddy work will be done in the constituency because rogue contractors will be blacklisted.
