The MP said the county has failed in providing basic needs to its residents.

Speaking during a function at Mamba Hotel, Awiti, who is a strong critic of the governor, put the entire blame on the governor’s desk, saying it was upon every county leader to see into it that his subjects are well taken care of.

“The buck stops with the governor. He should find ways of providing water and other basic needs instead of concentrating on foreign trips and show offs,” said the legislature.

The MP said the huge debts that the county government owes the Coast Water Board are the main cause of the shortage.

However, the head of the Mombasa County Water Department Fatuma Awale rubbished the claims by the legislature saying that the county government is committed to providing clean water to the people of Mombasa.

“Gauging by where we found water services when we took over as a county, I have no fear of contradiction to state that we have done well as far as water issues are concerned,” said Mrs Awale.
