Police officers in Kitutu Chache North constituency have been accused of failing to arrest and arraign in court illicit brew makers and sellers.
Kitutu Chache North MP Jimmy Angwenyi on Sunday said police officers in his area of administration ate only interested in taking bribes from illicit brew makers and sellers.
“Increased illicit brews in Kitutu Chache North should be blamed on the corrupt police officers. Interior Cs Fred Matiang’i should remove police officers who have stayed in the region for over two years and bring new officers ready to work if at all the government intends to finish selling and making of illicit brews,” he said.
The Jubilee MP defended local chiefs saying that they were dedicated to eradicating illegal brew deep in villages with the help of Nyumba Kumi officials.
“Chiefs with the help of Nyumba Kumi officials in villages have stepped up efforts to end making and selling of illicit liquor but the corrupt and lazy police officers are frustrating the hard-working local government officers. The poor working relationship between police and chiefs will not end illicit brews soon,” said the MP.
He claimed that the police have given a deaf ear to the government’s calls to arrest and arraign anyone engaging in dubious businesses.
“The government through the ministry of Interior needs to up their game in fighting illicit liquor failure to which several youths will become alcohol addicts,” he added.
