An MP has called for immediate arrest and prosecution of chiefs taking bribes from herders to allow them to graze at people’s farms in Kitui.

Nimrod Mbai, Kitui East Member of Parliament said residents have complained to him about 4 chiefs who have been colluding with herders from Garissa and Tana River counties to destroy crops in the region.

The MP said he will push for the sacking, arrest and prosecution of any local administrators accepting bribes from the herders.

“I have been informed that some 4 local chiefs have been taking bribes from herders so that they can graze in the area. The investigation is ongoing and those who will be found guilty will be sacked, arrested and prosecuted,” he said.

He urged residents to report to police any herder trespassing to graze livestock on private farms.

“Police should intensify patrols in the area to ensure herders from Tana River and Garissa are driven away with their animals to prevent the destruction of crops,” he said.
