Mavoko Member of Parliament, Patrick Makau has called for the constitutional review to allow for appointment of elected MPs as cabinet secretaries for efficiency.
Addressing press in Athi River town on Monday, Makau argued that it would ensure effective service delivery, since elected leaders understand the needs of the people they represent as opposed to unelected leaders.
"We must revise this constitution to allow for appointed or elected members of parliament for efficiency since they understand problems and need of their electorates," said Makau.
He said that most of the cabinet secretaries were not effectively delivering in their dockets, given that they do not represent members of the public.
He cited the Cabinet Secretary for Internal Security, Joseph Ole Nkaissery as a successful example of the CS who understand problems and needs of the public, since he was elected by Kajiado Central Constituents before his appointment.
Makau said that the CS understands matters of security, and has therefore responded to insecurity in Syiokimau, Machakos County by accepting to upgrade a police post in the area to police station, alongside providing four police vehicles to the station.
He however called on the residents to cooperate with the police through the ‘nyumba Kumi’ initiative, so as to combat crime in the region.
