According to the MP, students are likely to drop out of school as a result of the ravaging drought being experienced in some parts of the country.

Speaking on Citizen TV on Friday, the MP observed hundreds of students are already dropping out of schools in Makueni to search for food and water as a result of the biting drought and starvation.

“The government should urgently introduce feeding program to keep students in schools in areas where drought is ravaging. The MP warned that if the government does not move with speed to intervene then schools will remain without students.

At the same time, Maanzo asked the government to put in place measures that will mitigate the drought. He said that the ravaging drought will result to deaths if the government fails to mitigate properly.

Maanzo accused the Jubilee government of being slow in responding to the drought ravaging some parts of the country.

According to the national government, adequate funds have been released to mitigate the drought that has seriously hit Kitui, Garissa, Tana River, Baringo, Elgeyo Marakwet, Kilifi, Tana River and Isiolo counties among others.

According to Devolution Cabinet Secretary Mwangi Kiunjuri Sh16 Billion has been set aside to mitigate the drought.
