Nyando MP Fred Outa has questioned the presence of numerous Non Governmental Organizations in Kisumu County despite high level of HIV/AIDS scourge in the area.
Outa said many NGOs are working in the region with an aim to address health issues mainly on the spread of HIV/AIDS.
He said despite their heavy presence in the region, annual survey on the disease continues to place Kisumu a head in terms of prevalence.
The MP said donor agencies continue to pump million of shillings in the fight against AIDS but there is little progress.
“A lot of millions is being spent in the county and we are not seeing any progress on the fight on AIDS,” he said.
Speaking when he joined First Lady Margret Kenyatta in handing over the mobile clinic to Kisumu County, Outa said there is need to audit the NGOs in the County.
He called upon Governor Jack Ranguma to ensure all the NGOs working in the county are audited.
Outa further called upon the Luo community to discard some traditional cultures that might be detrimental to their health.
He said faithfulness is the key to lock out the spread of HIV/AIDS among the married people.
