Mvita MP Abdulswamad Nassir has called for concerted efforts from individuals and corporates to support children living with diabetes in the country.
Speaking on Saturday shortly after flagging off a Diabetes Awareness Walk at the Treasury Square in Mombasa, the legislator decried the rising number of children in the country living with diabetes, saying the number can only be brought down through collaborative efforts from all stakeholders.
"The Diabetes Awareness Walk is a cause which I have been supporting over the years and this year's theme was dubbed 'Save a child with diabetes'," he said.
"I call upon more corporate and individual sponsors to join this cause by supporting all people especially children living with diabetes. We all have a part to play," he added.
According to Thomas Ngwiri, a doctor at Gertrude’s Children’s Hospital in Nairobi, there is an estimated 5,000 children with type 1 diabetes in Kenya, most of who die before diagnosis.
