Gilgil MP Martha Wangari has decried the rising cases of suicide among students in higher institutions of learning.
She said the trend is worrying.
Wanagri spoke in the wake of an incident at Chuka University where a male student took his life after he was jilted.
“As parents we are worried by a trend where students are committing suicide or killing their partners in colleges and universities due to love related incidents,” she said.
She challenged students joining tertiary institutions to focus on their main objective of learning as their parents and guardians have invested a lot in their education.
The MP as she issued Sh14m bursary funds to 693 students in her constituency on Sunday.
Wangari said Gilgil constituency has been allocated Sh21 million through the NG-CDF to support students.
“Unlike in the past when much attention was put on secondary school students, we have decided to support those joining colleges for various vocational courses,” she said.
