Rabai MP William Kamoti has called upon different State agencies to scrutinize academic qualifications of all aspirants in the country ahead of the August general election. Kamoti, who spoke at Mwanjama Primary School in Rabai, faulted government agencies for being selective when it comes to the crackdown on politicians suspected to be holding fake academic documents as the polls draw closer. The legislator asked the agencies to probe governors aspirants from all the 47 counties in the nation and not just Mombasa County boss Hassan Joho. He noted that Kilifi Governor Amason Kingi is among the county bosses with valid academic papers. “Governor Amason Kingi’s education background is known. We know he is a lawyer who graduated from the University of Nairobi. We need an audit of the other candidate’s degrees and I can confidently confirm to you that most of them do not have genuine degrees,” said Kamoti, as quoted by The Star. His sentiments were reiterated by Kingi, who said the government should start probing all the other candidates to ensure ensure fairness in the polls. “If it is true what the MP has said, let the government investigate even these aspirants. We do not want a situation, where only leaders from the opposition are being scrutinized. We want fair play,” he said.
