Soy Member of Parliament Caleb Kositany has expressed concerns over a lot of time students spend seeking passports to enable them to travel abroad for their studies.
This follows the closure of the Eldoret Immigration offices several years ago.According to the legislator, students miss opportunities abroad as they are forced to travel to Kisumu or Nairobi to get this crucial document."Our students take 4-5 days to get this document with some of them missing crucial opportunities abroad because of this," Kositany told the press in Eldoret ton on Thursday. The Jubilee MP called for the reopening of the offices which he said will not only serve locals in Eldoret town but also Kakamega, Turkana among others."I am calling upon the Cabinet Secretary for Interior Dr. Fred Matiang’i to ensure that the office is brought back to Eldoret and should be given out powers to process passports for our students to get it on time," he said. The Eldoret Immigration offices were closed in 2015 following the Al Shabaab threats and claims of the officials engaging in corruption when issuing passports to locals.
