Addressing a section of traders on Thursday when he inspected the ongoing construction at the market, Awiti further thanked both the national and county government for funding the project.

He said the market will become a landmark facility that will benefit thousands of traders.

"I urge the Kongowea market committee to work tirelessly with all the stakeholders including the county government, my office and members of the county assembly to ensure that there is transparency in allocation of the new stalls to traders,” said Awiti.

The legislator said priority should be given to those who were displaced to pave way for the construction works.

President Uhuru Kenyatta is set to officially commission the market in August.
