Uasin Gishu leaders have been challenged to spearhead unity and cohesion of residents for economic development.
Turbo legislator Elisha Busienei said that unity is crucial if Uasin Gishu is to achieve socio-economic development.
He said that leaders must put aside their differences and focus on uniting the people, noting that the county was among those hit bad by the 2007/2008 post poll chaos.
“Leaders must put away their interests and work towards cohesion of our people,” said Busienei.
The MP asked residents to shun leaders who preach hatred and only work with those who are willing to spearhead development.
Busienei called on the county government to focus on starting projects that will benefit the people directly.
He added that the idea of devolution was to bring services closer to the people, and that leaders must ensure it succeeds.
On security issues, the MP asked the national government to ensure that Kenyans and their property are safe.
He indicated that providing security is the responsibility of the government, and it must take it seriously.
The MP supported the amendments proposed to security laws, saying the amendments would help deal with deteriorating security.
He however called for careful scrutiny of the amendments before they are passed into law.
On Friday, during the Mashujaa Day celebrations at 64 Stadium, county Governor Jackson Mandago supported the proposed changes to security laws saying the law will help deal with criminal and terror elements.
