An MP has said the Kenya Airports Authority has not laid down proper measures to respond to emergencies at the Kisumu International Airport.
Kisumu West lawmaker Olago Aluoch said on Friday that there are no elaborate measures outlined to counter an emergency just in case it occurred at the airport.
Air crafts taking off at the airport fly over Lake Victoria and the MP explained that in case of any mishap and a plane crashes into the lake rescue efforts may fail because of the unpreparedness.
"We are staring at a disaster. Look at the planes that take off at the airport, they fly right over the lake. In case of a crash and a plane drops in water, what measures are there to ensure that lives will be saved within the shortest time possible?" the MP posed.
The Kisumu International Airport is Kenyan's fourth largest airport in the country after Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, Moi International Airport Mombasa and Eldoret International Airport.
The largest aviation company that flies planes there is Kenya Airways which operates five flights at the facility everyday.
There are however, other companies that operate at the airport with at least one flight per day.
