Kisauni MP Rashid Bedzimba has challenged Coast residents to support one of their own for the presidency in the near future.
Speaking on Wednesday during a development tour in Vikwatani area, Kisauni Constituency, Bedzimba argued that the region had supported people outside the region for the top seat and it was high time other parts of the country reciprocated the favour.
"For how long are we going to wait before we take our very own to State House?" Bedzimba posed amid cheers.
"We must have the urge. It is impossible for this region to support people outside it in every election cycle. There must come a day when other parts of the country must support someone from the Coast for presidency," he said.
Mombasa County Governor Hassan Joho has declared he will vie for the country's top seat in 2022.
Joho has been endorsed by a section of Coast leaders led by Kilifi County Women Representative Aisha Jumwa and Msambweni MP Suleiman Dori.
