Rongai MP Raymond Moi wants the county government of Nakuru to start charging parking fees from all long distance trucks which park at Salgaa and Maai-
Moi says that the county government can make a lot of money from the two stations money he said can then be used in developing the two trading centres.
Speaking on Friday at the Salgaa trading centre when he donated reflector jackets to bodaboda riders, Moi said that the county government should commercialise the two parking stations just as it has done in major towns in the county.
“The number of trucks which park here and Maai-Mahiu on a single day are more than one hundred. This can be a good source of income for the county government,” he said.
Moi added, “All they need to do is to put up good structures that will ensure the money collected from the trucks does not end up in people’s pockets. The money can then be used to develop this area by fixing feeder roads, installing security lights and supplying water to the area.”
He said that in return, the government must also provide security so that truck drivers can be assured of their safety and their trucks and goods.
Moi called on Salgaa residents to stop the habit of stealing goods from trucks which park in the area saying that doing so discourages many drivers from parking in the area, something he said is killing business at the vibrant trading centre.
