Kuresoi South MP Zakayo Cheruyiot wants elected leaders in Samburu, Turkana, Pokot and Baringo to dialogue to end cattle rustling and conflict that is often experienced among the communities.

Speaking to residents when he toured his Constituency on Saturday, MP Cheruyiot said that persistent conflict among the communities threatens the peace of neighbouring counties.

He said elected leaders in the affected counties should dialogue and put an end to cattle rustling and violence in those mentioned areas.

“We are concerned by the level of insecurity that is being witnesses in Turkana, Pokot, Samburu and Baringo. It is high time leaders in the affected areas put aside their differences and find a lasting solutions to the conflict,” said MP Cheruyiot.

Cheruiyiot said elected leaders have the responsibility to ensure peace in their respective jurisdictions. He also urged the State to find appropriate solutions that will end cattle rustling and ensure peace and order returns in the affected counties.

He asked the State to stop giving ultimatums on those in possession of weapons illegally and instead take an immediate action by disarming those people.

“As it stands, ultimatums by the State are not working so the need for urgent disbarment of the communities by the State,” added Cheruyiot.

MP Cheruyiot also urged the State to deploy adequate officers in the area to hunt down the rustlers who are said to have invaded Nadome Village in Turkana and massacred more than 60 people on Monday last week.

He said that the attackers must be pursued and brought to book stating that situation will continue to repeat itself if the perpetrators are not arrested and charged in Courts of Law.
