Ng'anga, who was speaking during a security meeting, which was held at Kimuchu Secondary school, gave an example of a man who was arrested last month with explosives in Makongeni.

"There have been a number of occasions where suspects are arrested in this town with explosives which are believed to be coming from the Somali border on their way to Nairobi,” Ng’anga said.

She added, “I kindly urge residents to be very alert and always ready and willing to share such information with the police officers so that the suspects can be arrested and help the police with the investigations."

The MP further called upon all leaders and religious leaders to come together and work in ensuring that security in the town is enhanced at all times.

Jeremiah Gicheru, Deputy County Commissioner, said that most of the crimes in the area were being carried out by youths who are between the age of 18 and 30 years.

"The solutions to our youths who are engaging in crime is not to arrest them but to talk to them and give them guidance. We need to tell them about the negative effects of such crimes," Gicheru said.
