Molo MP Jacob Macharia wants Nakuru County government to investigate some traders and suppliers who are allegedly selling fake fertilisers to unsuspecting farmers.
Briefing the press in Molo town on Thursday, Macharia alleged that some traders are selling fake farm inputs to farmers.
He said that he has received several complaints from the public and called for investigations on the matter.
“I want to ask our county government and the Police to investigate allegations that some traders are selling fake farm inputs,” claimed Macharia.
He said that the government has a responsibility to protect its citizens from unscrupulous traders who are keen on creating quick money through innocent citizens.
He added that the government must put in place measures that will ensure such incidents are not happening.
Macharia said that the economy of the area is at stake if such traders would be allowed to con residents by selling to them fake money.
The MP urged farmers to be careful when purchasing farm inputs and always demand for receipts and other documents.
“My appeal is to farmers to be vigilant and report such cases whenever they suspect they are being conned.
Macharia at the same time urged the county government to consider helping farmers who cannot afford farm inputs ahead of the plantings season.
He also appealed to the county government to consider buying seeds and fertilisers for farmers saying the move will boost food production.
