Teso South MP Mary Emase linked the incident to her opponents who she described as cowards who had sensed defeat.

She told them to brace for a bruising battle saying attempts to disrupt her rallies will be met with strong resistance.

Addressing a press conference at Farm View Hotel in Busia town on Tuesday, Ms Emase claimed her opponents were already panicking.

"I am telling them to relax. I will ask for votes from the electorate peacefully. Using youth to cause mayhem will not help advance their political agenda," she said.

"I have organized computer trainings and football tournaments to keep the youth busy in my constituency. It is good for them to get involved in such activities instead of engaging in risky ventures."

Emase said no gender should be intimidated when it comes to politics, adding that every party should be given adequate political space to campaign in any part of the country without provocation.

She denied reports that their high-profile tour of her constituency was disrupted by goons, prompting them to flee.

On Monday during the visit a section of residents disrupted a meeting attended by the MPs.

The MPs included Rachel Shebesh (Nairobi Women Rep), Sabina Chege (Muranga Women Rep), Alice Wahome (Kandara), Hellen Sambili (Mogotio), Joyce Laboso (Deputy Speaker, Parliament), Zipporah Kering' (Nandi Women Rep), Beatrice Elachi (Nominated Senator) and Ms Emase.
