This follows a move by the Kenya National highways Authority (KenHA) to extend ongoing road construction beyond the stipulated 30 meter rule.

Olago claimed that the authority has earmarked to extend the road by 60 meters, a move he said would leave hundreds of residents of Bandani slums, Riat, Otonglo and Kisian displaced.

Speaking on Tuesday at Otonglo market in his Kisumu West constituency where he was crowned by the Korando community as an elder, the MP called for dialogue between the authority, the contractor Sino hydro construction company and the local leadership.

“It is unfair to expand the road beyond the known 30 m rule by alienating peoples land,” he added.

The ongoing road expansion is part of the northern by pass that starts at Nyamasaria area through Kondele to Kisumu Airport and aims at decongesting the town.

At the same time, he criticised the Jubilee government for indulging in the ICC matter as a coalition saying it is a personal matter that the president should suffer alone.

Olago, who is a renowned lawyer, said the move could be misconstrued as a mockery of justice.
