Ainabkoi MP Samuel Chepkonga has dismissed the crowning of Raila as a Kalenjin elder saying the move had no political significance

Raila was crowned a Kalenjin elder last week on Tuesday at Moiben.

“His crowning did not observe the Kalenjin culture, the Kalenjin council of elders known as Kootab myoot and the Kalenjin community were not even involved in the sacred practice. The council of elders official John Seii also informed me he was not aware the event ,” said Chepkonga.

The crowning of the former Prime Minister sparked a debate in the North Rift region following reports that elders who crowned him had no cultural authority to conduct the exercise.

Other elders argued that an elder cannot be crowned twice.

Raila had already been crowned as a Kalenjin elder year’s back where he was named Arap Mibei - the man from the water.

The ODM Marakwet chairman Samuel Chemweno revealed on Monday that Raila is set to hold a series of rallies in the North Rift region.
