Taita Taveta women representative Joyce Lay has become the latest politician from Raila Odinga’s Opposition to decamp to President Uhuru Kenyatta’s Jubilee party. Recent visits to the Coast region by both President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto has been causing panic waves in the perceived Opposition stronghold. Ms Lay, who has been in Raila Odinga’s ODM party, now joins Taita Taveta senator Dan Mwazo, a former ally of the former prime minister, in Jubilee Party, The Star reports. The Jubilee party has managed to poach several key Coast leaders from ODM, among them Kilifi North MP Gideon Mungag’aro. It is said that Taveta MP Naomi Shaba and Kenya Ports Authority boss Marsden Madoka are behind the mass defections from the Opposition coalition. Ms Shaban has vowed to ensure Jubilee gets more votes than Raila’s Opposition in the county. Sources told The Star that DP Ruto’s recent visit played a key role in wooing the politicians, who now leave the ODM party in dilemma. Ms Lay said that it will not be long before other ODM leaders from the areas decamp to Jubilee.
