Lari MP, Joseph Kahangara, has declared support for the Proposed Security Laws (Amendments) Bill 2014 and urged fellow MPs to ensure it sails through.
Kahangara said that the bill will lay the foundations for the government to guarantee safety and improve security to its citizens.
“The bill is a fundamental issue in the war against terrorism,” said Kahangara.
Speaking today at Lari sub-county, Kahangara said the Bill would help to a great extent in the improvement of security in the country if it is adopted into a law.
“The Bill will change the status of security in country and bring about the much needed stability that Kenyans want,” said Kahangara.
He also said that the Proposed Security Laws (Amendments) Bill 2014 has come at the right time when the country is under increased pressure from terrorists.
“The bill will ensure the country takes a major step in curbing the deteriorating security in the country”, added Kahangara.
The legislator also said that the Bill places the president in a better position to appoint and fire those charged with the responsibility of ensuring security in the country if he or she fails to live to the expectations of the citizens.
The lawmaker urged his counterparts to pass the Bill once parliament resumes.
However the Bill has raised concerns by some members of public who want the contentious issues to be ironed out before being passed into law.
The provision that bars a journalist to publish information related to security before approved by the police and clauses that stop journalists from exposing malpractices like corruption within police service are some of the provisions that have generated wide criticism.
