Kathiani MP Robert Mbui has turned down calls by a section of residents and leaders from his region to contest for the governorship in the next general elections.
According to Mbui, there are many projects that he needs to complete before joining the race to become the next county boss.
The outspoken politician said that he will defend his seat in the next general elections before he considers running for the county’s top job in 2022.
“There are those who have been pushing me to go for the governor position, but I have a lot of unfinished business with the people of Kathiani,” he said as quoted by the Star.
The Machakos gubernatorial race has attracted several candidates including the incumbent Governor Dr Alfred Mutua and Former Kathiani Member of Parliament Wavinya Ndeti.
Machakos Deputy Governor Bernard has also expressed interest in the seat during the next general polls. Many political analysts from different parts of this nation have said that Mutua stands a better chance of re-election since he has done a lot for the people of this area.
The governor will be defending his current position using Maendeleo Chap Chap ticket after falling apart with Wiper Party Leader Kalonzo Musyoka a few months ago.
