Gatundu North MP Kigo Njenga has defended the headmaster of Kiriko Primary School in Gituamba, Gatundu North, after he came under fire from parents on Monday for allegedly sending their children home for tuition fees.
The headmaster is accused of charging Sh1400 per pupil, allegedly for catering for exams, electricity, and tuition among other expenses.
Kigo, who was speaking to the press in Gatundu North CDF offices on Thursday, accused the media of publishing false information before seeking the facts.
“I saw some sections of the media reporting that the headmaster is charging tuition fees and other things. Let me say that this is not true and the headmaster is just doing what they have agreed with the parents that is intended to improve the school's performance,” said Njenga.
He said that the newspaper that had published the 'false' information ought to apologise to the head teacher, District Education Officer and himself for misleading the public.
The MP noted that school administrations can have mutual agreement with parents on how to boost performance of their schools.
