Uhuru urged the opposition to ‘Meza Mate’ (keep on salivating), a direct answer to opposition leader Raila Odinga's scathing attack on his regime earlier.

The statement has since attracted sharp criticism from Kenyans on social media.

And Tong’i on Tuesday came to defense of President Kenyatta saying his remarks had nothing to do with misappropriating taxpayers’ money as interpreted by opposition members.

“The President’s Kula Nyama remarks had nothing to do with misappropriating taxpayers’ money and that is a fact. We need to be honest in our criticism and avoid personal vendetta against the Head of State, “he said.

“He simply urged the opposition to give him time to work for his people without politicizing everything. Sometimes people degenerate to non-issues and I am quite disappointed. The opposition should mind its business and let the government execute its mandate,” he added.

He also urged the opposition to be tolerant and help the government deliver its promises to people without necessarily engaging in persistent duels.

“There comes a time when opposition and government should work together to foster growth. At the end of the say we are one people and our people cannot languish in abject poverty due to political differences,” he said.
